Israel, the Temple & the Church

The unfolding story of God dwelling with His people from Genesis to Revelation.

One Story Through the Whole Bible

From Genesis to Revelation, the Temple reveals the heart of God’s desire: to dwell with His people and bring them into a holy, loving relationship with Himself. The Temple is the place where He meets with His people and governs their affairs through the worship He ordains. Following the story of His dwelling places helps us see how that desire unfolds across the Bible—and where the story is leading.

Adam and Eve walk hand in hand with the radiant presence of God through the Garden of Eden, among fruit trees, a glowing tree, waterfalls, and peaceful animals

Israel’s story brings this relationship into focus. Through the wilderness Tabernacle and Jerusalem’s temples, God establishes a place for His presence among His covenant people. Their history of faith, rebellion, judgment, and restoration unfolds around that sacred meeting place. Then, through Jesus the Messiah, the story opens to the Church, where believing Jews and Gentiles become a living temple, indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Israel and the Church have distinct stories, joined by the same faithful God and His purpose to dwell with His people.

The people of Israel gather to worship at Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem, with priests at the great bronze altar and the bronze Sea

Meanwhile, much of Israel does not recognize Jesus as the promised Messiah. Yet God works even through this unbelief to extend salvation to the Gentiles, who through faith in Jesus are adopted into His family. Israel’s unbelief does not cancel His promises; His faithfulness to Israel remains part of the story.

Jewish and Gentile believers worship together as a royal priesthood, with the Holy Spirit descending as a dove before the lampstand and the Ark of the Covenant

Across 40 chapters, we follow the Temple as the connecting thread through these stories until they come together in the final chapter: the New Jerusalem. There, the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple, and God dwells with His people forever. As we trace that journey, we discover what it reveals about His character, His promises, and His invitation to draw near today.

How Each Chapter Works

Every chapter puts Scripture first, quoting the World English Bible, and then teaches from it. Each one asks what people believed, trusted, or rejected, shows how the story points to Jesus, and ends with a short Temple Prayer response, so that learning becomes worship.

New chapters are added as each one is completed. Titles for the upcoming chapters are provisional. Using our images.
